East West Rail Consultation

Published: 02 April 2021

On 31 March East West Rail launched its 10 week consultation regarding the east west rail project connecting Oxford and Cambridge (via Bedford to Bletchley Marston Vale line).

https://eastwestrail.co.uk/consultation   The consultation closes on 9 June 2021.

The consultation includes proposals to:

1. Close the Woburn Sands and Aspley Guise level crossings, with new road bridges.

2. Or retain the Woburn Sands level crossing, with up to 40 minute delays.

Attached are two of the key diagrams and the high level points impacting us locally are detailed below.

Woburn Sands See attached)

East West Rail propose two options for the station:

Option 1: Extend the existing platforms to the west in order to accommodate longer trains.

Option 2: Relocate the station to the west.

There are two proposals for the level crossing:

Option 1 proposes closing the level crossing and building a new road from Hardwick Road to Bow Brickhill Road, bypassing The Leys and then on to Newport Road in Wavendon. A bridge would be provided at School Crossing in Woburn Sands. To view the suggested plan click here

Option 2 proposes retaining the current level crossing, however the barriers would be down for up to 40 minutes per hour. A new foot footbridge would be provided west at Woodley’s Farm and School Crossing in Woburn Sands would remain closed. To view the suggested plan click here
